Herbert Hoffmann: Motivtafeln | |||||||||
Herbert Hoffmann, now well into his 80s, ran a tattoo parlour in Hamburg/Germany, way back in the middle of the last century, long before tattooist was considered a hip job description. In fact, when it was anything but hip. Those are the pioneers who deserve our deepest respect and admiration! After the nice people from Memoria Pulp published this collection of his Flash, Hoffmann became known to a larger audience, thanks also to his on-going presence at European conventions, where to this day he is still soaking up all the information, taking a keen interest in all the goings-on. While Hoffmann's artistic skills are admittedly not up there with the likes of Sailor Jerry, e.g., this bi-lingual tome (German / English) still is a must-have for any collector, and those of you holding up the Old School Flag. Support Memoria Pulp (the publisher), and order your copy directly from them - click here. Let them know who sent you. Update October 2004: The full length documentary "Flammend Herz" featuring Herbert Hoffmann and two of his tattooed old-timer friends is now show- ing in parts of Europe. More info on the film's site: www.flammendherz-derfilm.de. I have had the ple- asure of attending one of Hoffmann's lectures - he is such a great story teller, I'm sure this film will be very entertaining. |
